Mindful Block
Mindful Block block list settings

Mindful Block turns distracted browsing into something good. Blocked sites redirect to Ecosia and OceanHero, search engines that plant trees and clean the ocean.

Add to Chrome — it's free

Other blockers show you a wall. This one does something good instead. Every time you try to visit a site you're trying to avoid, you get redirected to a search on Ecosia or OceanHero. Those searches plant trees and remove plastic from the ocean. Your distraction becomes a small act of good.

Impact counter — now you can see how many trees you've planted and how much plastic you've helped remove, right in your popup. The setup page was also redesigned to be cleaner and easier to navigate.

Older releases

Mindful Block now gently asks for a review after you've been using it for a while. The extension was also renamed to make it easier to find in the Chrome Web Store.

Learn about the personal backstory

This project started as a tool for my one-month-no-news challenge, and was inspired by a centuries-old oak in a German forest. I've written about it in more detail. Learn more
